Building a website
has been an expensive venture for a long time and people have often asked, How do you build a Website for Free?.

You had no other option but to buy a domain name, web hosting, and pay for the web design.

Contrarily, you can create a website for free now.

Building a website for free has become a fun endeavor because you don’t need to code or develop anything. All you need is a computer and a browser.

Before building your website, you must choose a domain name and a hosting plan. The domain name and hosting plan will be important for SEO purposes. All three major site builders have options for a free package, but you should opt for a proper domain name.

You won’t be able to achieve the top spots in the search engines with a sub domain, which makes it difficult to rank for relevant terms in Google.

Free Website Builders

There are many free website builders available.

You can choose from a variety of templates to create a website. Some of them will give you a page limit of fifteen, while others will give you unlimited space. You can customize your site to meet your needs and meet your own specifications.

There are many ways to build a website for free. You can find an inexpensive web host or opt for a premium package.

You should choose a website builder that allows you to change the design and layout after publishing it. Some free websites won’t allow you to change the design after you have published it. The choice of a website builder is essential.

A plan should offer a unique domain name and a design template relevant to your business. Once you have your site, you need to add content to it.

Most free website builders come with an editor. The editor is more complex than most others. For example, you cannot edit your content and choose to use an editor that is designed to make your site more appealing to visitors.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, a free website builder is an excellent choice. The basic plan includes 500MB of storage and a free domain name, but you can’t use your own domain name with Wix.

Benefits of Building a website for Free

Many people opt for free website builders as a first step to start a business.

If your budget is tight and you are not quite ready to pay for a paid solution, a free website builder can be an invaluable tool to get started. It will also give you plenty of time to practice before you commit to a paid solution.

These online sites often offer more than 500 templates and a drag and drop editor for easy customization. You can change the elements and add new ones to your site and make changes to your design without the need for programming knowledge.

These websites are also compatible with dynamic features. But if you’re unsure of the skills required to create a professional-looking site, you’re better off looking for a paid service.

The Drawbacks

However, there are certain drawbacks to a free website.

Most free website builders do offer a few pros and cons. It is advisable to check out the different options and decide which is the best for your business.

In general, you will have limited functionality and features, which will make your site less appealing. For example, you will not be able to set up a fully-equipped online store with professional-looking themes or plugins.

In addition, most of these sites limit the amount of content you can upload, so you should always be aware of this before you begin building. This will ensure that your website stays safe and secure for your visitors.

The free plan limits your website to 15 pages and does not offer SEO options.

The editor is slow and buggy and does not allow you to add a logo or any other image. You can only build up to 15 pages for your website. A free plan only has a few options.

  1. Yeah, I think that’s sound advice. I’ve never seen a subdomain ranking for high-value keywords. It just doesn’t work that way. On that note, it’s not like buying a domain breaks a bank either. Granted, it’s not free. But you likely spent more on junk food the other day. Just omit a day like that and buy yourself a cool domain. 🙂

I think you really nailed it with the drawbacks. I mean, that just illustrates that if someone really wants to build a website 100% for free, it is possible. However, you will be heavily limited as to what you can do with that website. Hence, while it is awesome to kind of take a free website for a spin (see how it feels to have one), it is a perspective long-term solution.

Other than that, some real sound advice on choosing the right theme and as far as web hosting goes. Cheers. 🙂

  2. I mean, I think that it is quite easy to build your own website for free. The only disadvantage is that you have to learn everything by yourself and no one is there to help you. I prefer WordPress over wix. It is easy to use and easy to learn. Thank you for such

  3. Hi Mark

Thanks for sharing many details about building a website at no cost! It sounds like WordPress will be a better option for beginners, right? I believe it is common sense for having limited options on a free version so that people who are more serious will move up to the paid version once they have experienced the system for a bit.

    Thanks again,

    Grace

    • Hi Grace,

Yes WP is definitely a great website building platform and thanks to Wealthy Affiliate we get to build one out for free.

      Glad you liked the article.

  4. I have been using Word Press and building my website for free.  It has been a learning process for sure, but I remember what I learn as I go.  And I feel that it is the best way to go for sure.  I guess if you are not technically inclined at all, this might seem pretty daunting.  I did voice and data communications for over 20 years, so for me it was a great fit.

    • Hi Leahrae,

Yes I must admit it was pretty daunting for me when I first started as I was never really that Tech savvy!

I have learned a lot along the way, and Word Press has made it pretty easy.

  5. Hey Mark,

Actually, I think it is really important to have a website or blog nowadays as a person who wanna work online and for sure it will be good to have a free one, but you will be listed on 4,569,852….. Google page if you don’t know anything about how to rule it out!

For sure there are costs to pay not only about money, time of course and no there is no exception for that and if someone wants to grow, need to learn from A-Z him/herself, unless they need to pay the price.

    Sincerely,
    Farzad

  6. Hi Mark,

Not everyone has the skills or time to build a website. For those of us who don’t want to spend money on hiring someone else to do it, there are many options for building a website for free.

There are some limitations to these free services, such as not being able to customize your site as much as you would like and only having a certain number of pages.

From my experience, the best option is often a combination of free and paid services.

My urgent question is: what is the difference between a static and dynamic website? when it is useful to build static or dynamic website?

    Have nice day.

    • Hi Safia,

The main difference between static and dynamic websites, is that the content on a static website stays the same, while Information on a dynamic site can shift.

Static websites consist of a fixed number of pre-rendered web pages containing hardcoded, fixed content and structure.

Dynamic websites generate pages in real-time. The flexibility of the content and structure makes it possible to customize what a user experiences based on their request or the browser they use.
